Forest Conservation and Sustainable Land Use
Bumitama commits to:
- Protecting, restoring and co-managing where possible the identified High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon Stock (HCS) areas in our plantations;
- No new planting on peat and implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on existing plantations in peatland;
- Zero burning policy within our plantation and proactive engagement of local communities in fire-free village programme;
- Subscribing to the HCV Resource Network Assessor Licensing Scheme (HCV RN ALS) and High Carbon Stock Approach (HCSA) method and engagement with reputable certified assessors in assessing the High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon Stock (HCS) areas in our plantations;
- Recording and progressively reducing GHG emissions from plantations and mills;
- Monitoring water quality and water consumption and maintaining required parameters to the national standard;
- Implementing Integrated Pest Management and maximising nutrient recycling.
